Apple Lovin’

I am in love with my new gadget.  An Apple peeler, corer, slicer.  I bought it last fall from Ross for $14.00, getting nostalgic for when my parents would dehydrate fruit, and hoping that I would get up the energy to do it myself.  Well I bought a bunch of Apples last week and thought I would try it out.  WHY HAVE I WAITED SOOOO LONG?  I think this thing will become a regularly used object in our kitchen.  I can use it for potatoes as well!

I was able to get 5-6 sheets of dried apples (about 10 apples) in about 20 minutes. A record, I believe (at least for me).

So go get your peelers and dehydrator and enjoy a yummy healthy treat!

Here was my experience…

Peeling, slicing and coring my apples….

I love the rings they make.

Anna did too (such a fun way to eat apples)…..

Then I broke them into pieces and soaked in pineapple juice (reserved from frog eye salad. )  Lemon juice is good too.

Then I laid them out on the sheets, plugged in and waited.  A few days later they are almost all gone!  Anna kept sneaking into the kitchen to get them. Such a good and healthy treat!

The only problem was figuring out what to do with the peels??DSC_0338

Give them to the dog?DSC_0342

She just turned her head…DSC_0346

Or eat them myself… perhaps a couple bites. DSC_0343

YUM! I made some in the fall and they were a big hit. I was sad though, because they went so quickly for how labor intensive they were to make. It was worth it though.

You should try applesauce next. You can use the peeler, corer, slicer and then put the apples in the crockpot with some water. Then I blend them (be careful to let them cool down first if you have a glass blender or it might shatter).

Your pictures up is so cute! What beautiful puppies! And this apple thing is a great idea. Where did you get the dryer, and how long did they take to dry? My mom makes a killer applesauce that she bottles if you want the recipe.

I want one of those cool apple things! I think pampered chef sells one for a lot more $. You got a deal! And I'm trying not to envy your cool dehydrator too!
