The Cinderella Cake

For those of you who know me, you know that I LOVE birthdays! I think that they are important to celebrate. It is YOUR one day that you celebrate only YOU. A few years ago I started making more extensive cakes.  I LOVE doing it. I wish I had more events to make them for so I can practice. I learn something new every time and get a little bit better, however I have a LOT to learn… {insert some day cake decorating classes here}.  I spend hours planning and making the cakes, but when I have a 2 year old remember her cake all year and the same three year old talk about her Rapunzel cake all year long, and now a 4 year old tell me that eating her cake was the best part of her birthday it makes it all worth it!

Anna had the cutest smile all day, but she kept squinting her eyes more than normal. It was so funny.  One of my sisters said, open your eyes Anna, and this is what she did!

The insides. I made Funfetti ( my sisters were making fun of me because I called it Funetti) cake for a change, plus Anna usually doesn’t like the cake as much as she likes the fondant. I thought this would change that.  However, I gave her a taste of the batter before it was cooked and she thought it was gross, so therefore she said, “I don’t like the cake.” A couple days later I convinced her it was good and she agreed.

I decided not to wrap Cinderella’s legs like I did Rapunzel.  It made for an interesting view once the cake was done.  Then I loved having the knife in the photo.  We thought it was hilarious.

DSC_1009Cinderella, you naughty girl. (:DSC_1010

The details, more for me, but perhaps you’ll want to know:

This time I didn’t spend too long on the cake, which was great.  Anna wanted “a Cinderella cake just like her Rapunzel cake.” Easy. I knew what pans to use and I had already bought a Cinderella at Christmas time on sale. What I didn’t realize until I got going was that Cinderella is the most simple Princess! I put the dress on her and realized I had a few little additions and I was done! I spent some time working on the top and didn’t go back to the ruffles on the dress until it was too late! They were already getting dry and set. So I was sad I couldn’t make more. Also my fondant was drier than I would like. Even adding some water didn’t help too much. I wanted the dress to flow a little more. I also wanted it to look like it was flowing up a little bit to show the petticoat underneath. I added some fondant on the front and filled in with a little frosting (I was too lazy to change the tip and I should have used a different one, but it still looked okay.)

I was going to add more details to the bodice and decided to keep it simple.  My brother in law asked me why I wrote on her bum… perhaps it is because I wanted her to be hip? I should have out “PINK. ” (:  I just thought it was the best space, but perhaps next time it will be different.  AND perhaps I’ll used a smaller tip for the lettering.  I was just being lazy and didn’t change it.

That is my schpeal. I love Cake making, I just wish I loved eating all the cake… okay I do, but usaully not until the next day or so… and that is the problem, especially with these bigger cakes.  I just hate being wasteful. Which makes me “waist-ful.” (:

My Princess A.K.M

Can you believe this little itsy bitsy thing…100_0699Is now this big girl!?!

DSC_0937

I LOVE her so much! I have a hard time finally posting updates around birthdays ( I have yet to post my one year olds..oops sorry second child) because I have so much I would love to say about them.  How could a proud Mama post everything her heart would like to say in one post?  She cannot.  So I will just write a list of a few favorite things 4 year old does to make me smile each day.

*She is CONSTANTLY singing. in her bed. on the potty. while she is playing with toys. watching shows. in the car. playing games. eating food. even playing her new little leap pad she hums the background music.  This girl will hear a song once or twice and almost know it all. I need to get her in music lessons. I have a hard time listing her favorites, because she loves almost anything.  Her favorite bedtime song is the primary song, “if you don’t walk,” which is one of my favorites!

*She has the BEST memory. Seriously.  She had to get her shots (yes child life specialists, we call them shots, sorry) last week and she said, “remember last time I got my shots and I had to sit on the couch in California and I couldn’t walk?” Hello people that was a year ago when she was just barely 3. she also just says random things (that I wish I wrote down) that she’ll remember. She relates to things well because she associates them with something she knows or remembers. It’s amazing. Truly. I cannot wait to see what she does with this brain of hers!

*She loves anything girly. Princesses are of course number one, but she also loves dance, sparkly things, dolls, babies, playing kitchen, and wearing pretty things. Though she isn’t one to insist on wearing bows or putting on dress ups.She loves littlest pet shop, ponies, and stuffed animals.

*She is very CREATIVE.  All her stuffed animals and friends have names. I had her list a whole bunch so I could write them down.  This is more for my memory, but it is fun to see the names she comes up with.

Brown Baby, Big baby, Talky baby, Sweetie bear (heart bear), Bear, Lolli –short for Lollipop (dog), Pinkie (MJ’s valentine bear) Whitey(my anniversary bear),Duckie, Bunny, Dress bunny, Dress Bear, Furry (barking dog), Sally, Ali, and Baby Sally (pillow pets), Scamp & Layda & Clara (purple) &Princess Light Swirl, (those four are her ponies), Swami and Omi (her snakes), Pinkie (another pink toy-her elephant), Bruno (musical dog), Fluffy( white one), Kissing bear, Budha, Jumper, Starty, (bath toys), Eli (one day when she forgot her name she named her Jenna) the elephant.  Basically if it isn’t a princess with it’s own name, it will get a new one and will be cherished for that name.

*She loves preschool.  It has been a good thing for her.  She already knows all her letters and numbers, but she has learned things I would never think to do. Last week out of the blue she started saying the Pledge of Allegiance. She sings the safety kids, she talked about Christopher Columbus, had “Cinder Claus” (I think that was the name) come in December, she talked about dinosaurs and learned about carnivores, loves to draw teeth, colors more in the lines, is pretty good with a glue stick now and can cut pretty well! She loves to learn and tell me about different students in the class.  One day she came home and said, “Mom, guess what? I was the ONLY person who listened to my teachers today.” I replied, “really?” yeah, everyone else was not good listeners, but I listened.” I said “what did you listen to"?'” She said, “to everything my teachers told me! There is a timeout wall and there were a LOT of kids on it today!” ha.  She is so funny.  Whether or not she REALLY was the ONLY listener, I don’t know, but I am glad she listens.

*She loves Primary.  She knows a lot of the songs, but I find her learning new ones and verses that I haven’t heard before. (: Like “Choose the right, Let the Spirit of Digression over come you in the evil spell.” She always has a story about her classmates.  She tells me what she learned in the “big Primary” and in her “little classroom.” I am amazed at what she soaks in.  She told me the other day there was going to be a pajama party and she would get to wear her pjs! “Isn’t that silly that we would wear our pjs to church.”  I got the story straight and found out it was a brief announcement for the relief society sisters not the primary kids (even stranger I know).  But she listened.

*She is VERY distracted.  I think it is her overactive imagination. I have to remind her A LOT to finish what she started or eat her food, or do as I ask. (perhaps she is more like me than I thought.)

*She loves people as is very intuitive about their emotions. She is usually shy at first when meeting new people, but she observes a lot and notices things. She will hear me say, “oh no” on the phone and HAVE to know right away what is wrong.  She has a big heart!

*She loves her Daddy, but teases him a lot.  She cannot have him leave for work without saying goodbye.  She screams and runs to the back door when he comes home.  Though after that she tries to make him earn her love (such a girl) even though she really wants it. (:

*She is a goof ball! She will make up silly words and silly parts to songs. She can cross her eyes and loves to show people.

*She can write almost all her letters.  She loves to sound out words and try to spell them.  Lately she has actually sounded them out, minus the vowels. She was very proud of herself when she “read a book” by associating the word with the picture and seeing the first letter.

*She hates doing chores, unless it is on her own terms.  She will all the sudden get this drive to clean the whole playroom and it will be organized and beautiful.  This is VERY rarely.

* Her favorite shows are Jake and the Never land pirates, Dora, Team Umizoomi, and movies like Tarzan, Annie, Barbie, Tangled, and fun Library finds. She loves to play computer games with these characters as well.

*She has never been much of a climber and is hesitant when doing so, but recently has taken to jumping off High things. good grief.

*She loves to Dance. She feels the music and interprets it in many different ways.  Sometimes she makes me copy her, which for a “trained” dancer is sometimes difficult.  She loved learning new moves from her teacher, Miss Nanette.  Her Shuffle step is my favorite.  I don’t know if it is the direction she will go in the future, but it is fun for now.

*She loves her cousins and her friends dearly. The other day she started crying, “I miss my friends and cousins!” it had only been a week or so since we were with them.

*She loves to tell me her Dreams when she wakes up. They are quite hilarious.

*She is a morning girl and we often wake up to her singing or playing the voices of her dolls. (which is sometimes very high pitched).

*She is a little spit fire and definitely knows what she does and doesn’t want. Sometimes she is more defiant than I know how to deal with, but we get through it and love one another.

*She still loves her “little white blankie” and sleeps with at least two stuffed animals.  She only sleeps in nightgowns and doesn’t like having blankets on her.

*She’ll fight getting INTO the bath, but once she is in, she’ll play for hours.  She hates getting splashed in the face and constantly asks for a dry towel.  Please swim lessons come soon!

*She is a puzzle master.  A skill or enjoyment passed down from generation to generation by both sides of our family.

*She loves being a big sister.  She tries to teach Maddie how to play.  She tries to Mother her.  She tries to comfort her. And she loves to hug her and hold her hand (much to Maddie’s dismay most of the time).

I could go on and on. I love this girl!! I am so proud of who she is, a beautiful, energetic, little ball of energy!

Disney 2012- Day 1

We went to Disneyland with the K-fam and had a wonderful time!  We spent only 1/2 day the first day which was a perfect introduction for the girls.  We loved running to a few favorite rides and trying some new ones.  Then we watched the World of Color.  It was also Auntie Kjersti’s birthday so we celebrated her the whole weekend.

We started off with a few cookies.

DSC_0268DSC_0269DSC_0270DSC_0271

Then off to  our first ride… and Anna’s Favorite. Soaring over California! Because of the parent pass she got to twice in a row and loved it. The best part is that Anna knew most of the places we “flew over.” “Mom, that is where we rolled our car!” (Yosemite). (:

Our second Ride, Ariel.  Another new favorite ride. Anna was terrified of Ursula at first and wouldn’t look at her.  She loved Ariel in the “under the sea” part.

First Time to Disney (unless you count while in the womb). First time meeting Mickey.

New Years

Since we moved to Bountiful 5 years ago we started a tradition of staying up late with the Miner Sibs. We have rotated homes. The most memorable for me by far was the one that I spent pregnant, in my bed at my home, with a head ache while other’s partied (I was truly a great host- Ha!) Then Dave and I left shortly after and spent the night at the hospital and I was put on bed rest for 3 weeks until Anna was born.

Needless to say, I was happy to host again under more favorable circumstances. Our tradition is to share Papa Murphy’s pizza (our favorite is stuffed chicken & bacon…delicious!) Then bring appetizers, salads, and WAY too many desserts.  One year we all brought our popcorn tins given to us by our Aunt and Uncle.  Ha! That was hilarious! This year I wish I would have taken a photo of the spread.  We REALLY ended 2011 right!

These are the only photos I caught and this was shortly after midnight with the “stay up late” party. Others went home a little early which was fine too!

Anna was so excited to stay up with her cousins!

This is our 13th New year’s Kiss. (We kissed for the first time on New Years). Back when we were lots cuter and skinnier. –okay 2011 was our fat year, 2012 we are going to rock hot bods! I think the next set of photos were taken by Anna… (and I must be insane for allowing myself to post them! oh well , cannot glamorize ALL blog posts right?!?)

I Am Published!

No, my friends I am not a writer, my spelling is often times incorrect (thank you spell check), I have lots of run on sentences or phrases that don’t make sense.  (heck that sentence was poorly constructed) But I try to get my thoughts out and share them with pictures, via my blog.  It is something I cherish, though I have slacked on it lately. This Christmas was fabulous (more on that in a different post) and one of my favorite and most treasured presents was a book of our 2010 blog that Dave put together for me.

 111229-220625

It is so fun to read through it and see all we did that year.  I was a MUCH better blogger last year, sharing funny quotes of Anna’s, vacation memories, thoughts, events, friends get togethers, family memories, moving adventures and most importantly… feelings.  It is awesome to read through.  THANK YOU BABE!

So in efforts to make another incredible book for 2011 I have some catching up to do.  I hope to repost quite a bit in the next little while. I am trying to figure out how to do it best. I have been inspired by many other blogs that post just a few photos and thoughts.  But I have a hard time limiting things. Something I plan to work on!  It is better to have a little than none at all.

Love you Dave

30th Birthday Party….

Okay, really quick before the party. These are our sweet girls who are within a month of each other! Em, Bekah and I have been friends since Junior high. It is fun to see our little ones together. Perhaps one day we’ll all live in the same state again!

DSC_0383DSC_0384

Okay onto the party. I am so mad we didn’t get a good photo like in the “old days” I should post of photo from then, but I am too lazy.  It was fun to be with each other and laugh again. Also we missed a lot of our friends that weren’t able to be there.   So here we are opening our gifts from Tori ( she gave us these amazing cookbooks complete with weekly outlines and shopping lists.  Amazing!  Thanks again Victoria!

DSC_0577DSC_0578Here is the cake I made for the party.  I had done so many “fun cakes” lately that I decided to try to be more “elegant.”I went back and forth on the color, I wanted to have something fun so I chose purple. It turned out QUITE purple. Also I tried to make this beautiful bow I saw in a cake book, but my fondant was a little too soft to set. I had a friend of mine print some old photos from a Christmas party and from Prom with edible ink on rice paper. I was fun.

A little inside joke on the back.  ( I was tempted to put a lot more things on there, but ran out of time)DSC_0585

Thank you Nicole for being the official “blower” since your birthday was next! DSC_0587

I made Lemon cake with a Lemon Curd filling. It was delicious, a change from all the chocolate we had had over the holidays! I wish I had cut it a little smoother and wish I was a “food photographer,” but you get the point.

Happy Birthday Girls, so some of my favorite people!! Love and miss you all!!!
